No More Sound

LONDON: Celebrating the “power of quiet”, Selfridges department store asks everyone to shut-up in allocated sections of the store during No-Noise January. The Silence Room, an idea that Harry Selfridge himself thought up way back in 1909, will showcase minimalist design at its best with the help of The Idler and Headspace. You’ll be asked to remove your shoes, hand over your mobile devices and not talk. Additionally, The Quiet Shop sees some top brands remove all labels from their clothing in an attempt to dampen down the screams of ‘I’M DESIGNER.’” As we become increasingly bombarded with information and stimulation, the world is becoming a noisier place. In an initiative that goes beyond retail, the unique project invites you to see the beauty in function and find calm among the crowds.

A moment of silence on busy Oxford Street’s department store Selfridges, their de-branded iconic yellow shopping bag, No Logo Fashion still made by high-end designers like Levis, Beats by Dre…, take off the logo and rest your eye, meditation at the Silence Room, re-branded Estee Lauder beauty products, a mass meditation on the store’s ground floor
