LONDON: The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is my first choice for a perfect weekend in London. Situated on one side on busy Knightsbridge just opposite Harvey Nichols and on the other side my room has the view over Hyde Park with the beautiful trees and the boating lake.

This hotel has plenty of charming opposites. The Mandarin spa which makes you feel like you are  in a sanctuary far away someplace in Asia and the busy lunch and dinner at the hotel Bar Boulud, where you can enjoy house-made terrines, pâtés, hams and saucissons all produced under the guidance of Gilles Verot, one of France’s finest charcutiers. I make my lunch appointments here and order a coq au vin and moules and a glass of red Burgundy.

The good thing is that you will not have to go far for your riding lesson in the morning. When I come back to the hotel I have a home-cooked breakfast of fresh eggs with herbs on homemade bread with a beautiful view of the park. Is there a better way to start your day in a busy city like London?
