The Perfect Cup

MUNICH: The other day I was very lucky to get a guided tour through the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. The manufacture’s headquarter, which has been located within the castle since 1761, is one of Germany’s oldest manufactures and when you walk inside, you are taken by the fine art of porcelain making.

The old watermill is still operating the manufacture and the employees are proud to be part of this traditional company which always looks out for new cooperations with international artists like recently for example the Monogramm collection by New York designer Ted Muehling. He hand-drew 26 different letters on a plate in gold and platinum in a way that a fly would fly the letter form.

The manufacture and showroom are an inspiring place and you immediately want to change your daily tea cup for one of the very fine porcelain cups Nymphenburg is so very known for (it’s the thinnest porcelain made by hand).
Go on a guided tour and learn more about porcelain making; it will be a prosperous inspiration for learning an ancient handcraft and it will definitely make you buy something. Maybe the matte white porcelain snow feather, which can be a decorative accessory on your desk, or a very fine champagne mug made out of biscuit porcelain by designer Ted Muehling, which will give your Coup de Champagne a different twist.

Impressions of my tour through the Nymphenburger Porzellan Manufaktur: Shelves of ready to be painted porcelain, intense colour pigments and perfect tools for the fine art of painting on porcelain, the famous hippo which makes a perfect decoration on your dinner table as well as different kinds of table flowers, the old watermill which makes the manufacture run, and my favorite tea cups which give my morning tea the perfect taste.
