Room service

"It matters more what’s in a woman’s face than what’s on it." - Claudette Colbert

Always carry a bunch of postcards with you on your travels. It is more personal to send a hand-written postcard than an email, especially when their funds are going to charity or non-profitable organizations.

On my travels in the United States I often take advantage of a dial-in beauty service to get ready for a glamorous night out. Not just anyone, only the best get into my room.

The Elemis Travel Spa at London Heathrow or New York JFK airports allows me to relax and get reinvigorated in only 15 minutes. I love the “Flying Feet” treatment where hot stones are used to massage the soles of my feet. And any tension just melts away with the “Spot-On Power” back massage. The best: Services are complimentary for British Airways business class fliers.

Bumble and Bumble

After island hopping in Greece, make sure to fly via Athens and buy beauty products from the Korres eco beauty boutique. An ideal spot to pop in for a post-flight touch–up.

How does your hair look like after an eight hour flight to New York City? When you go via London, book a ticket with Virgin Atlantic and enjoy the luxury of the Clubhouse, where they have a Bumble and Bumble hair salon and you will look good when you arrive in NYC.

After checking in at the Sydney International Airport I did my asanas facing the blue Sydney sky before boarding the plane to New York City. Get some fresh air at the Marc Newson designed Qantas Sydney First Lounge day spa in the 30-meter vertical garden.
No worries when you have a delay at Buenos Aires’s Ezeiza International Airport. Walk into the La Prairie airport spa and have a three and a half hour Beauty extravaganza including a facial, massage, pedicure and manicure.

On my flight back to London from Tacoma International Airport in Seattle I had three hours time for myself due to a delay and I found the recently opened Butter London nail salon for a quick manicure. I had to hurry up and pick the right color which can be very difficult with so many beautiful choices.

When you are traveling in the United States, keep your eyes open for the XpresSpa at 30 different US Airports. You can have a Flash Facial in only twenty minutes and they are famous for their last-minute waxing, ideal for those en route to the beach.

Favorite airport beauty spots

My favorite stop in Soho is the Baked by Melissa bakery on 529 Broadway. All cupcakes are filled with tasty sweet stuffing and the mini cupcakes are only the size of a plum. They are truly homemade. If you are not in New York, you can order Melissa’s recipe book and try it yourself.
From now on I will have breakfast from time to time at the new Ladurée Le Bar on the Champs Elysées in Paris. You can order caviar, salad and soups and of course the world-famous patisserie and macarons all day long.
I think of Christian Lacroix haute couture when I enter the patisserie of Monsieur Christophe Roussel on 10 rue du Champ de Mars in Paris. The colors are as vibrant as the flavours. I order a hot chocolate with the flavour of coeur de Guanaja de Valrhona and a caramel macaron made with salted butter.
Italian gelato in the heart of Tokyo

"Forget love – I’d rather fall in chocolate!" -

I am happy that Billy’s Bakery, one of my favorite cafés in New York, has just opened a new branch in Tribeca at 75 Franklin Street. The fluffy cupcakes with vanilla or chocolate frosting taste just as good as at the original Billy’s in Chelsea.
I love café hopping in Prague. My favorite is the beautifully restored Art Nouveau  Café Savoy on the Malá Strana - their thick hot chocolate and the Savoy cake with lots of chocolate, marzipan and cherry jam are heavely.
Another sweet New York favorite I can’t get enough of: the spicy hot chocolate at Mariebelle in SoHo, spiked with cinnamon and chipotle chile.

There is always some time to kill at international airports and in order to save time and to arrive beautiful at her next destination, IRMA reveals her best beauty spots in between flights.

Italian ice cream in Tokyo

Only in Paris can you find so many elegant chocolatiers – on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré alone there are a dozen. One of my favorites is Pierre Hermé. The fine chocolates are packaged in little beautiful boxes which make perfect presents. In summer I love the raspberry macaron with fresh raspberries and flavored with Persian rosewater.

I enjoy an after-dinner ice cream at Grom in the very stylish neighborhood of Shinjuku in Tokyo. The Italian ice cream maker just recently opened a branch in Tokyo and was welcomed by the slow food movement in Japan. All ingredients are of course organic and freshly made and the clientele is very fashionable.

When in Munich my
favorite store to look
