Perfect Breakfast for a Ski Day High up

ST. MORITZ: Trainer Jopo Pötschger has the perfect breakfast for a ski day at 3000 meters altitude: You can drink some coffee but also lots of mineral water, as coffee dries out your system, especially when you are as high as St. Moritz. For a high energy impact take some natural yoghurt or half fat fromage blanc mixed with oats and bananas, apples or pears. Do not use red berries as they push up the glucose level to high. Flax seed is also very important because it aids digestion and helps vitamin division, as well as grained hazelnuts which are also rich in Omega 3 fats and influence the good cholesterol.

If you cannot resist bread, choose whole grain with spelt and add some honey which has an antibiotic impact. A glass of fresh milk would be perfect as milk holds water in the tissue (another good aid against dehydration which can be caused easily in the height) and takes care of bones and muscles.

JOPO’S HEALTHY TIPS:
Don’t sit on a chair, rather on a large gym ball.

Put the water you drink always out of reach and get up whenever you need a drink.

Walk, take a bike, move. Don’t take a car if it is not absolutely necessary.

If you always feel tired in the afternoon try to book at least once a week a stimulating massage in the afternoon hours. Your system will get a metabolic lift.
Always train with your own body weigh and avoid machines which can make your muscles too bulky.

Train the upper and lower body equally with a full body split training session, you will be impressed how your energy will keep flowing.

Listen to your body, learn to let loose and take a break when you need one.

How to Relax in 48 Hours

ST. MORITZ: It might be easier than it sounds when you start your weekend with a personal training with Jopo Pötschger, one of Europe’s five best personal trainers, who works out at the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz during the winter season. He might ask you to start a personal training with any object out of your handbag or he takes me to the Swiss Coop for grocery shopping. These ideas sound odd at the beginning. But when I am instructed to do a full body split workout with my lipstick (which seemed to me the oddest object out of my handbag for a sportive exercise) where I had to concentrate on putting the lipstick with my right & left arm on each side while doing push-ups, I easily forgot about my muscle pain or breathlessness.

Going grocery shopping with Jopo is more a conscious exercise of what to eat and what to avoid. I put all the things in my grocery basket that I like to eat and Jopo chooses best alternative for my methabolic balance, which he defines by the Persofit method which gives you a definition of your entire health status. Jopo talks you through your training session with lots of personalized information which he also shares with his well known clients like Elle McPherson, Uma Thurman, Jude Law, Mark Webber and Elisabetta Canalis. I will keep you posted with more information during the weekend.

White Welcome

ST. MORITZ: By now you know that I choose the hotel I stay by the size of the swimming pool. For me there is no greater luxury than swimming in a pool with a beautiful view, first thing in the morning. That is why I have chosen the Kulm Hotel. When you think of luxury hotels in the snow, St. Moritz definitely comes to mind. The resort town has the highest density of leading hotels, most hours of sunshine and almost always good snow conditions in wintertime, besides there are a million other things to do apart from skiing.

The Kulm Hotel, which opened in 1856, is a classic with lots of tradition and fun, for example in the Sunny Bar which hosts the members of the Cresta Club next door with many happy hours and great parties. The Spa and pool are newly renovated and I will show you more in the next days, which will make you want to come to this place immediately.

Sensible Packing

ST. MORITZ: Follow my tips for the snow and enjoy every minute even for a short break in the Swiss Alps: Less is more as you do not want to change your skiing outfit every day. Travel light and take just a few stunning pieces which make a statement when you go out at night.

1. Take your warm cashmere sweaters and combine them with skinny pants when going for a walk through town or some ice skating at the Kulm Hotel’s ice rink.

2. When going for breakfast in the morning while staying at the Kulm Hotel, I slip into my Chanel ballerinas for a summery feeling before wearing my ski boots for the next hours.

3. When skiing, work with layers and use high-tech materials rather than fancy fashion outfits. On piste, I prefer: KJUS
and Moncler. And off piste: Patagonia, Peak Performance and Arc’teryx.

4. When hitting the slopes, be sure to wear a 50sph sunscreen, the best is by skinCeuticals.

5. Swap your fur coat for a cool XXL jacket or coat and cover up rather in a beautiful colour than in soft fur.

6. No make-up but high maintenance is key for the perfect glow on the slopes. I have my skin treated every night with Alpienne Mountain Beauty essentials or a special treatment at the new Kulm Spa.

Moncler combines the best chic and function, sweater by J.Crew, wear ballerinas with bare legs when staying inside and before putting on your ski shoes, I prefer a one-colour outfit, it looks classy and cool by Hermès, combine statement pullovers with skinny pants for your après ski.

Swimming in Champagne

LONDON: Tonight I am staying at the Andaz Liverpool Street hotel in London, which is also known for the Andaz Salon, one main reason why I prefer to stay at this fantastic hotel. The Andaz Salon curates all kinds of interesting art projects, talks and exhibitions throughout the year in all Andaz hotels around the world. There is no better match than staying where the art is happening, like for example the new installation created by cutting-edge designer duo, Harvey & John that invites guests to experience the sensation of diving into a glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne. Guests are greeted in the lobby lounge of the hotel by a multi-sensory light installation reflected off a wall of mirrors, creating the illusion of effervescent champagne bubbles which guests are invited to touch, play, observe and interact with. The installation is still at the Andaz Hotel until April and you should have a look and enjoy a glass of champagne at the bar.
